The Punisher

The Punisher is the next multi-genre comic riot from Paragon - this time about Frank Castle, the Punisher.

Frank was a cop. Honest Good one. I did not take bribes. He planted bandits. He had a wife, two children. They loved to walk together in the park - Central Park in New York. But once ran into the "arrow" of two gangs - and as a result came under crossfire. Frank was seriously injured, but survived. And his family before his eyes turned into bloody fraud.

Since then, he has become a different person. A man with a skull on his chest. The man who brings justice to the darkest corners of America is the Punisher, whose retribution will overtake anyone who transgresses the law.

In this he is helped by a chain of informants - bandits having debts before him, trying to persuade him to spare them; his faithful ally named Microchip, collecting equipment for him; various police officers who are unable to prosecute villains due to the corruption of their colleagues. And then one day, he is offered valuable information - a security system based on Wilson Fisk, one of the kings of the criminal world of the MARVEL universe, from whose comics this game was made. For these plans, he asks for nothing at all - half a million dollars. But they need to be REACHED.

This is where the game begins. The microchip formulates tasks for Frank - there is a shooter, here is a weapon depot, and here a fleeing serial maniac from another state is hiding. Frank nods with a clever look, sits behind the wheel of a faithful combat van and sets off ...

A trip around the city is very interactive - the same engine is used to chase fleeing bandits - and involves remembering the exact address of the suspects. After that, Frank goes on foot - and another engine. The top view should already be familiar to you - Paragon’s X-Men 2: Fall of the Mutants are also working on the same engine. A simple walk through enemy territory with the obligatory shooting of everything that shoots back. Capturing trophies and trapping or shooting suspects leads to the fulfillment of the assignment and to the replenishment of the party cashier - sometimes the mysterious Committee consisting of rich people who want to sponsor operations like ours also throws up money for certain tasks (they also contain, for example, the Moon Knight - but his comic book is much less popular, and was not marked by games).

And if you have to do business under water - yes, yes, Frank, like a former Marine, doesn’t know how! - the view will be from the side, and we may have to fight sharks ... or other scuba diving enthusiasts.

And when the money is collected, we have a long and painful conversation with Mr. Fisk about his criminal plans ...

Like other Paragon games, this has not been circumvented by their eternal problems. The ideal concept on paper is contaminated with an uncomfortable and anti-intuitive interface; not to mention the simple difficulty of launching every second game (for example, I could not run X-Men Madness in Murderworld on any test machine) or their tendency to freezes and crashes without warning.

Nevertheless, after the Amazing Spider-Man, this is their second best attempt at playing the legendary comics from the publishing house MARVEL - and the only one for the next fifteen years, specifically for this character.

Summary. A difficult to learn, but addictive game ... for those who are interested in the source or the character himself (I’ll say right away - the recent film was rather free to the original plot); for those interested in cross-genre miracles ... and for game collectors who have been honored to be banned from free sale in Germany.
