Shamus

The Shamus game, which appeared in the early 80s, was later transferred to many platforms, including the IBM PC. This is an arcade game in which the protagonist of the game is a robot detective who makes his way through an intricate maze inhabited by cybernetic enemies in order to defeat the main adversary. The walls of the maze are energized - touching them is deadly.

The scrolling of the terrain in the game is screen-by-screen, and when you enter each room, various security robots randomly revive in it each time. There can be many or few enemies, they can be far or close (if there are too many enemies and they are pushing, you can just leave the room and go back in). There are mainly three types of security robots in the game: robroids (robots rolling on tracks), jumpers (two-legged robots moving with fast, chaotic jumps) and spiral drones (slowly rolling on four spring caterpillar legs), however, opponents can have different degrees of mobility, differ in color, and most importantly, some of them can shoot. Touching enemies or their shells is deadly for the protagonist. It is curious that the shots of enemy robots, if they hit other enemies, kill them in the same way as the main character, and this can sometimes be used.

The main character can move right, left, up, down and diagonally. He is not unarmed - even, rather, armed to the teeth with the latest YEAR fire system, or the Disintegration Hand Weapon (a free translation of the English abbreviation SHIV - Short High Intensity Vaporizer).

To be precise, this formidable name means the ability to shoot in any of the eight possible directions of the character’s movement: for this, holding the Alt button, you need to press one of the buttons to move (the cursor and diagonal buttons on the numpad). Another method of shooting - moving in any direction, quickly press the Alt button, however in this case the character will gradually shift towards the shooting, freezing for the duration of the shots. The shots of the agent robot always destroy the enemy from the first hit, but they themselves disappear at the same time - it will not be possible to destroy the crowd of enemies with one shot. It is also important to note that on the screen can not be more than two shells of weapons YEAST; for this reason, shooting in fast bursts is possible only from close range in a crowd of enemies, from long distances you will have to be limited to bursts of two shots (you can only release a new rank when one of the two already present on the screen disappears, hitting the enemy or the wall of the maze) .

If the robot agent has been on the screen for too long, at first a warning sound sounds, and after a few moments the Shadow of the main villain of the game appears. Unlike ordinary enemies, the Shadow cannot shoot, but it has the ability to move quickly, freely passing through the walls and floors of the maze and persistently chasing the main character (is it worth saying that touching this enemy is also deadly?). SHOT system fire shots cannot destroy the Shadow, but paralyze this enemy for a while, slowing their movement. To escape from the Shadow, it is enough to move to another room - the timer of its appearance when entering the room is restarted each time.

At the entrance to each room, not only enemies are revived, but also the location of the bonuses or keys put for this room, if they are there (that is, every time you enter the room, the bonus, if you have not already taken it, will change its location on the screen). There are only two types of bonuses - Secret (looks like a big question mark) and Extra-Life (looks like a bottle with an elixir). Secret, as the name implies, can have a different effect - it can give the hero prize points and / or one extra life, but at the same time it can sometimes immediately cause the Shadow to appear on the screen. Extra-Life, of course, gives the hero one extra life. There are many keys, and they differ from each other by teeth, and each strictly fits only to its castle, on which there will be a keyhole of the corresponding shape.

There are 127 rooms in the labyrinth, divided into four levels. Each room has its own number, and the game tells the player in which room it is located in the room (so, having sketched a plan of the labyrinth, it will be quite difficult to get lost in it). In the last, 127th room, the main villain of the game awaits, and if the agent has the strength to break into it, the weapon this time will not fail. The game has two difficulty levels, as well as the ability to use a joystick (these options are selected at the beginning of the game).
