Dark Ages

Dark Ages is an one of hundreds of platformers is good, interesting, but not containing anything new for the genre.

Here you can play on of the 3 parts of this game:
  1. Dark Ages: Volume 1 — Prince of Destiny
  2. Dark Ages: Volume 2 — The Undead Kingdom
  3. Dark Ages: Volume 2 — Dungeons of Doom

The action takes place in a fantasy world. After the sudden death of the king, his only heir remains the young prince. He is driven out of the house by an evil wizard named Garth (who, by the way, killed the king), who from now on himself began to rule the Great Kingdom (as it is called in the game). But the prince grew up, matured, became a great warrior, returned to his homeland and now must kill Garth’s and his monster servants in order to regain the throne.

The gameplay here is pretty standard for the platformer (side view, we go around the screens, we jump, we kill someone, we collect something), if not for one detail: at each level you need to get a quest from some NPC, which always consists in finding any item. We bring an NPC item - we get a key from it, with this key we open the door to the next level. It's quite hard to play, primarily because health bonuses are very rare here. In total, the hero has eight health units, to restore one you need to collect ten small coins. There is, of course, a thing that immediately restores all health, but this is extremely rare. You can save in the game at any time, but the game will always load with the level of health that you had at the time of saving.

There are not so many enemies - both types and simply in numbers - but each enemy is strong and often requires a separate approach. Among the opponents, giant spiders and, for example, living trees shooting with lightning can be noted. The weapon is not very diverse: there is no sword, but there are only different magic bonuses in the form of boomerangs of different colors and effects that can be found. It looks graphically, probably, average, but in general it’s not bad at all, the levels differ from each other in design (another thing is that there are not many of them as such).

The verdict is not a hit, and even, probably, the game is below the average level, but far from complete slag, as it is written in many places. Just the most ordinary platformer for fans of the genre.
