Curse of Enchantia

Stories about various kinds of travels to other galaxies, parallel worlds and time jumps, as a rule, appear to us in the form of colorful adventure narratives filled with heady spirit of discoveries, romance and obligatory heroism. And according to eyewitnesses (the few who actually returned from these wanderings), by the way, such voyages brought their direct participants only a mountain of problems and troubles. The Curse of Enchantia quest is a rare example of a work of art in which (to the displeasure of the protagonist) all the events are shown exactly as they actually happened. It all started with the fact that ...

In the distant world of Enchantia, the last couple of millennia ruled by magicians and sorceresses, in a state of constant enmity with each other, the most evil and treacherous spellcaster of all came up with the idea. The idea was to gain eternal youth and assumed the drinking of a rare magic potion. The witch managed to get the recipe for the miraculous elixir, but one of the ingredients in the witching world was simply not there. A specific component of the rejuvenating drink turned out to be a “human cub”, which has never been found in the world of Enchantia. Not without difficulties, the sorceress managed to open a portal to the human dimension and teleport an unsuspecting boy named Brad into her harsh world.

Brad, although he has an understandable curiosity for an unusual world, is completely unaware of the need for his presence in this strange place and wants to quickly get away. But either our hero at one time very much annoyed Fortune, or she doesn’t look at this world (not the best one, really), anyway, the journey in which an ordinary teenager will have to participate is not the most the best alternative to the nine circles of hell. Brad will visit fortresses and ice castles laden with traps, take a walk along the seabed, survive in caves and not lose his mind in a local city, and also visit the residence of vampires. And everywhere, in every corner of this hostile place, the hero will inevitably have to face a great many obstacles and dangers, some of which promise Brad the most adverse consequences ...

The main advantage of any quest is its diverse and interesting tasks. With this, Curse of Enchantia is all right: Core Design has stuffed game locations with a variety of puzzles and puzzles that you can think of. Here there are tasks for attention, quick wits, speed, and logic. Speaking of logic. Although there are some unobvious moves in the game, most puzzles are surprisingly understandable and logical and do not force the player to grit his teeth from the strain in an attempt to understand the intent of the developers.

But the riddles are riddles, but what about the game world here? According to the idea, Enchantia is a hodgepodge from a wide variety of climatic (and magic) zones and landscapes, so the locations in the game are very diverse. Such a contrast, however, does not hinder at all to perceive the game world as a whole - its unusual inhabitants contribute to the integrity of the perception, most of which are strikingly different from the representatives of the terrestrial flora and fauna. Regarding the interaction with the NPC, by the way, one can not fail to note one interesting detail: despite the fact that the game has a lot of diverse (very diverse!) Characters, you can only communicate with some of them. The process of communication is very, very original and does not look like classic genre dialogues. Instead, Core Design offer their own unique system, which can be called “barter”. The bottom line is that the characters communicate with Brad exclusively using pictograms that display the needs of the NPC and the reward they are willing to offer in exchange for the desired item. Frankly, there is practically no text in the game, and rare voiced replicas are used only to attract the attention of characters in some game scenes.

On this, some non-standard gameplay does not end there. So, in the game, in addition to the classic search for active points and puzzles tied to combinatorics, there are many arcade tests that make Brad deftly jump, dodge on time, and even fight enemies. In the context of the classic “point and click” control, such physical exercises look fresh, feel unusual and give the game a certain charm.
